In the Shipping area the traditional view, which identified the technical processes of "Operation & Maintenance" an unavoidable cost centre and at the same time difficult to manage, is changing. Partly due to traditional organizational and logistical problems of the sector, this perception was also exacerbated by the complexity of the technical aspects and by the application of increasingly rigorous rules. Inefficient logistics, complexity and operational "practice" have therefore hampered organizational and technical-economic operations targeted to efficiency.
Today, however, "comunis opinion" tends to consider the technical, maintenance and operation of the ship as an organic whole, where a new approach is required. Therefore all those organizational tools and methodology (including information systems that play a significant role) that can contribute to effective and efficient technical manage are required, that is to say plant availability and risks and costs reduction in compliance, however, with proper maintenance of the asset and in compliance with the requirements of different Authorities of the sector and their rules. |
